Furano transforms during summer into one of Japan's most beautiful destinations, famous for its spectacular lavender fields. While North Country Inn specializes in winter ski accommodation, we offer limited summer bookings for those wishing to experience Furano's lavender season.

Peak Lavender Season

Best Time to Visit: Mid-July to early August

The lavender fields reach their peak bloom during this period, creating stunning purple landscapes across the Furano valley. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best lighting for photography.

Getting to Furano in Summer

From New Chitose Airport

Express Bus:

  • Limited seasonal bus service operates during lavender season
  • Journey time: Approximately 3 hours
  • Advance booking recommended

Train Connection:

  • Take JR Rapid Airport to Sapporo
  • Transfer to JR Nemuro Line (Furano direction)
  • Total journey: 3.5-4 hours
  • More frequent departures than bus service

From Sapporo

JR Train:

  • Direct trains from Sapporo Station
  • Journey time: 2-2.5 hours
  • Scenic route through Hokkaido countryside
  • Multiple departures throughout the day

Rental Car:

  • Drive via Route 12 and Route 237
  • Approximately 140km (2.5 hours)
  • Offers flexibility for visiting multiple lavender farms

Local Transportation

Seasonal "Lavender Bus":

During peak season, special sightseeing buses connect major lavender farms with Furano Station and town center. These offer convenient hop-on-hop-off service.

Bicycle Rental:

A popular way to explore the area. Many farms are within cycling distance, and the relatively flat terrain makes it accessible for most fitness levels. Rental shops available near Furano Station.

Taxi Service:

Available from Furano Station. Drivers are familiar with all major lavender farm locations.

Insider Tips:

  • Visit early morning (before 9 AM) to avoid crowds
  • Weekdays are significantly less busy than weekends
  • Bring sun protection - summer sun can be intense
  • Many farms close by late afternoon
  • Lavender products make excellent souvenirs
